70th Anniversary Celebrations

On Thursday, April 24, 2008 and Sunday, June 8, 2008, the Jamaica Association for Deaf commenced our 70th year through our Hearing Awareness Campaign and Thanksgiving Service. The Hearing Awareness Campaign was held at the JAD's Annual General Meeting in April at the Pollyanna Restaurant. Guest Speaker was Dr. Rebecca Tortello, Special Advisor to the Minister of Education. The Thanksgiving Service was held in June at the Swallowfield Chapel, featuring Guest Speaker, the Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Hon. Bruce Golding.

AGM & Hearing Awareness Campaign 2008
At the April 2008 Annual General Meeting, the JAD launched our Hearing Awareness Campaign: a public education campaign to generate interest and awareness of early childhood hearing loss detection and intervention.
70th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service
The Honourable Prime Minister, Mr. Bruce Golding, was in attendance along with other members of Government, including the Honourable Andrew Gallimore, Minister of State in the Ministry of Labour & Social Security; Dr. Patricia Dunwell, Chairman of the National Advisory Board on Disabilities; Dr. the Honourable R. Danny Williams and Mrs. Williams, the Honourable Maurice Facey and Mrs. Facey; members of the JAD Executive Board and School Management Boards, the Deaf Community; School Community, as well as affiliated members of the Disability Sector.
