Prime Minister's Message: 70th Anniversary Church Service

MESSAGE FROM THE HONOURABLE PRIME MINISTER
JAMAICA ASSOCIATION FOR THE DEAF
70TH
ANNIVERSARY
The existence of organizations
such as the Jamaica Association for the Deaf (JAD), provides a medium
through which the rights and needs of the vulnerable and disadvantaged
in our society can be represented; and increases public awareness to
the plight of such persons. I must commend the JAD on its years of strident
advocacy on behalf of the deaf and hard of hearing.
Regrettably, many of us remain isolated from the needs and challenges faced by the disabled in our society. Despite the challenges that confront them on a daily basis; there is a spirit of resolve and resilience that prevails amongst many of these persons. They remain undaunted by their circumstances and are intent on succeeding, in spite of the odds. I admire their unwavering determination to pursue goals that many may view as unattainable – goals of higher education, employment at highly skilled jobs and so much more.
The Government lends
its support to the JAD and its efforts in ensuring that the rights and
privileges of the deaf and hard of hearing are protected and promoted.
I urge all of us to be more sensitive to; and reflect on the challenges,
with which our disabled persons must contend on a daily basis.
I wish for the JAD success
in all its endeavours to advance, promote and protect the rights and
entitlements of our deaf and hard of hearing citizens.
Bruce Golding
Honourable Prime Minister
