The Training Officer is required to design, implement and coordinate training programmes targeting participating teachers, Deaf Culture Facilitators, and parents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the implementation of all project related training activities including the design of Jamaican Sign Language (JSL) courses and related resources

  • Coordinate JSL competency assessment and certification for training courses

  • Conduct annual assessment of JSL communicative competencies of students.

Required Competencies, Qualifications and Experiences

The Training Officer must be/have 

  • A trained teacher with at least a Bachelor’s degree in education

  • 5-10 years of experience in teaching, reading, and working with the Deaf.

  • Certified in Jamaican Sign Language and Deaf Culture (at least up to Level 2)

  • Experience in leadership and project management at a strategic level

  • Skill and experience with course designing & resource development

  • Knowledge of JSL linguistics and a strong understanding of bilingual Deaf Education.
